What your photos reveal

Phones save extra information inside every photo, called EXIF metadata: the exact GPS location, the date and time, the phone model and often its serial number. Post a photo of your new sofa and anyone who downloads it may be able to see your home address on a map.

This tool shows you exactly what is inside each photo, then removes it. Unlike most online tools it does not re-save the image: it cuts the metadata out and copies the picture data byte for byte, so the quality is identical and the file only gets smaller. Your photos are read by your browser and never uploaded.

Questions

Are my photos uploaded?

No. The photos are read and cleaned inside your browser. Nothing is sent to a server, which matters for a privacy tool: uploading a photo to remove its location would send the location to someone else.

Does removing EXIF reduce the quality?

No. Most tools decode and re-save the photo, which loses quality. This one removes only the metadata blocks and keeps the image data exactly as it was, so the pixels are identical.

Why does my photo show sideways after cleaning with other tools?

Phones often store photos sideways and add a “rotate this way” flag in the EXIF data. If a tool removes that flag the photo appears rotated. This tool keeps only that one flag by default, so photos stay the right way up. You can turn this off.

Do WhatsApp, Instagram or Facebook remove location?

Most social apps strip location from photos they display publicly, but files sent as documents, by email, in cloud folders or on many websites and forums keep it. Clean photos before sharing them anywhere you are not sure about.

Does it work with iPhone HEIC photos?

Not yet. Browsers can’t read HEIC files. On iPhone, set Settings → Camera → Formats → Most Compatible, or share the photo as JPEG first.
