Converting CSV correctly

CSV looks simple until a value contains a comma, a quote or a line break. This converter follows the CSV standard (RFC 4180): quoted fields can contain delimiters and new lines, and "" inside quotes is a literal quote. Excel exports from Europe often use semicolons; the delimiter is detected automatically.

When converting to JSON, numbers and true/false become real JSON values, and empty cells become null. Values with leading zeros, like ZIP codes, phone numbers and IDs such as 007, stay as text so they aren’t silently changed, and so do integers too large for JavaScript.

SQL output creates a table with a column type inferred for each column, and inserts rows in batches of 100. Strings are escaped, so values like O’Brien or anything containing a quote are safe. Going the other way, nested JSON objects become dotted column names (user.name) and arrays are written as JSON text.

Questions

Is my data uploaded?

No. Parsing and conversion run in your browser, so customer lists and exports stay on your device.

How do I open the result in Excel?

Download as CSV and open it. If Excel puts everything in one column, your system uses semicolons: convert with the delimiter set to Semicolon instead.

Which SQL databases does the output work with?

It uses standard SQL with double-quoted identifiers, which PostgreSQL, SQLite, DuckDB and SQL Server (with QUOTED_IDENTIFIER on) accept. For MySQL, enable ANSI_QUOTES or replace the double quotes around names with backticks.

What about very large files?

Files up to 20 MB convert here. For larger files, or to filter and aggregate before converting, use the DuckDB SQL Explorer, which can export query results as CSV.
